Please be aware of, and use our footpaths. Where there are no footpaths take extreme care and obey general road rules. Always be aware that vehicles are using the same carriageway. Bright clothing or carrying a torch at night would also be an added safety precaution.
There are no Banks on the island but there is an ATM located in the Four Square supermarket. Some businesses only accept cash but most have EFTPOS facilities and accept major credit cards.
Limited coverage for Spark and Vodafone.
Power costs on the island are very expensive (4 times the cost of mainland power). Authorities are now looking into alternatives. Turning off all appliances and lighting when leaving your accommodation would make for good relations with your hosts.
Located in central Halfmoon Bay (Oban) the Community Centre is an ideal venue for an educational exchange, conference (up to 250 people), social function, team building weekend, workshop, crafts display, theatrical production or sporting event. Visitors to the island are welcome to use the stadium or gym for a small fee.
Local events, volunteer opportunities, items for sale or rent, lost & found - the community noticeboard is right next to the supermarket. Sit and watch the world go by or chat with a local, it all happens here!
