During the one-hour crossing of the Foveaux Strait on board our express catamarans, keep a lookout for wildlife including seals, dolphins and seabirds.

Luggage restricted to 2 carry-on bags per person (one small carry-on and one stowed - extra goods by arrangement).  

Child age 5-14 years; 4 years and under free.  

Check in 30 minutes prior to ferry departures, bookings essential.  

Vehicle parking is available adjacent to Bluff Visitor Terminal.  This is an airport-style parking facility, so you collect a ticket on entry and pay when you leave.  Vehicle parking cannot be booked in advance.

Kids Go FREE

During the New Zealand School Holidays school-aged children (0-18 years) travel free on selected Stewart Island Ferry departures when accompanied by a full fare-paying adult.  For dates and departures please refer to our website.

Coach Transfers

To/From Bluff/Invercargill (operated by Stewart Island Experience)

Coach transfers available from Invercargill to connect to the Stewart Island Ferry.  Pick-ups and drop-offs at Invercargill i-SITE Visitor Centre, Tuatara Backpackers, Victoria Railway Hotel, Invercargill Airport.  Coach transfers operate all year.

Coach transfers from Queenstown to Bluff connect to the Stewart Island Experience Ferry (Bluff/Oban).  Operating season: Nov-Apr.  Departs The Station Building, Corner of Shotover & Camp Street, Queenstown or Frankton Bus Shelter, SH6A, Frankton, Queenstown.  Note it is NOT possible to do a day trip to Stewart Island with this option - an overnight stay on Stewart Island is required if using this service both ways.

Stewart Island Experience reserves the right to amend timetables, cancel departures, substitute plant and alter ticket prices at any time.  A Government visitor levy of $2.50 per adult per one-way ferry crossing is included in the adult rates.  Prices are valid to 30 September 2019.
